US team dominates in Sölden

The long wait on Saturday finally bore fruit - the Ski World Cup is back after the summer break. Traditionally, the season starts at the Rettenbachferner in Sölden (AUT). And this year again, the TechnoAlpin snow guns on the edges of the slopes ensured ideal conditions.
The women's and men's races were dominated by the best skiers from the USA. In the women's race, Lindsey Vonn (USA) came first ahead of Victoria Rebensburg (GER) and Elisabeth Görgl (AUT). Ted Ligety was unbeatable in the men's race. The US skier finished ahead of the 20-year old surprise entrant from France, Alexis Pinturault. Philipp Schörghofer (AUT) came third.
The US Ski Team and the Sölden ski resort recently agreed a three-year partnership, making Sölden the sponsor and "Official European Training Home Base" of the Ski Team.
However, it was not only the sporting feats that impressed the spectators. Wonderful weather, perfect organization and optimum conditions on the slopes made the World Cup weekend a marvelous opportunity to promote skiing. The coming winter season is now filling every ski fan with anticipation.
