Bluetooth®: snowmaking controls without getting out of your seat
Bluetooth® is a universal wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances that permits a wide range of devices to be monitored and controlled. More and more manufacturers are using this technology as a wireless link to various notebook and cell phone accessories. TechnoAlpin has extended the range of Bluetooth applications to include snowmaking.
The technology is already in use in Sölden (AUT), at the Stubai Glacier (AUT) and in the Swiss resort of Veysonnaz. For the snowmaking crews there, the result is a much less stressful working environment, as Bluetooth offers convenient control of snow guns from the cab of a snow groomer, i.e. literally without getting out of your seat. The Bluetooth remote control has a full set of features: it enables, in fact, the display and management of all functions of the snow gun connected to the device; the controls are the same as those on the keyboard of the snow gun. The Bluetooth remote control is designed exclusively for TechnoAlpin snow guns that support Bluetooth radio technology. Units that are not compatible have to be refitted. A Bluetooth solution also for the lances has been elaborated by the TechnoAlpin engineers.
The wireless data transmission uses the standard Bluetooth class 1 transmission standard, which enables a maximum connection distance of 100 m. Connection via Bluetooth does not necessarily require visual connection between the two devices (remote control and snow gun). However, to identify and avoid any dangers quickly, we recommend that the snowmaking manager controls only machines in sight.
