Efficiency begins at the planning stage
The energy efficiency of a snow-making system is optimized right back at the planning stage. It must be customized with insight to present requirements and, above all, with foresight to future requirements. In order to guarantee that the right balance is struck, detailed master plans are produced at TechnoAlpin which take due account of the current situation while factoring in the plans for the future of each and every project. Over 1,000 such master plans are drawn up every year because every system is planned with painstaking precision, whether it is a large-scale development or a small, family-run ski resort. On the one hand, the design of the water supply system has to be correct and, on the other hand, the positioning of the snow guns has to be just right.
The water supply is the most challenging aspect of a snow-making system. Pumping plants and pipelines must be correctly dimensioned in order to optimize the supply to the snow guns in the field. Future extensions need to be taken into consideration in order to guarantee an adequate water supply even if the system is further developed. The system should also be designed to provide basic ground coverage within 72 hours, fully exploiting the short windows of opportunity for snow-making and improving energy efficiency. Not only is the right quantity of water needed in the right location, the temperature of the water is also a crucial factor. Cooling towers can be used, if necessary, to bring the water to snow-making temperature and so increase the output of the snow guns to a considerable extent.
The second key to getting the design of the system right is placing the right snow gun in the right location. The essential criteria which must be considered when selecting locations are slope width, gradient, wind impact and the quantity of snow needed as a result. The large number of models and products are highly conducive to finding the right solution for every application. Any TechnoAlpin fan gun can be supplied as a fixed installation on a lift, arm or tower, or as a mobile solution. Different pipe lengths and nozzle fittings on the lances enable efficient snow-making action, both on narrow ski routes and on wider slopes. Snow lances are now also available as mobile solutions.
Close liaison with the managers at local level is essential in view of the many influencing factors. The combination of the local knowledge of the customer and the professional experience of TechnoAlpin is the key to optimum system design.
