First impressions of the TechnoAlpin site in the Kanzelwand/Fellhorn Ski Area
About a month ago, TechnoAlpin started work on an upgrade to the existing snowmaking system in the interconnected cross-border ski area comprising Fellhorn (Oberstdorf/D) and Kanzelwand (Kleinwalsertal/A).
The first stage of the project, which will take several years to complete, comprises the construction of a reservoir with a storage capacity of 60,000 cu.m. with a new pump station capable of handling 200 l/s, the construction of a second new pump station with a final design capacity of 170 l/s, the adaptation and upgrading of five existing pump stations, the installation of new pipes and pits, and the replacement of existing pits.
By the start of the 2008/09 winter season, the highest ski area in Germany will be offering even more reliable snow cover thanks to a total of 73 new snow guns from TechnoAlpin, including 14 A9 lances, 3 T60s on 3.5 m lifts, 3 T60s on 1.6 m towers, 10 mobile T60s, 7 mobile M18s and 3 mobile PIANOs on the Kanzelwand side, and 5 T60s on 3.5 m lifts, 5 T60s on 1.6 m towers, 12 mobile M18s, 10 mobile T60s and 1 arm-mounted T60 on the Fellhorn side of the area.
Further additions are planned for the next few years with the aim of making Fellhorn/Kanzelwand the number-one ski area in the Allgäu region.
