Expansion of the snowmaking system in Gerlos
After the expansion of the snowmaking system last year which involved the construction of a reservoir, the "Fussalm" pumping plant, two cooling towers and a series of snow guns, the managers of the Gerlos Tyrolean ski resort decided to carry out further improvement work. This time the creation of a second pumping plant and the installation of more snow guns are the key elements in the second expansion.
The new TechnoAlpin pumping plant will replace the already existing one in the old "Krummbach" double chairlift valley station and it will triple its yield with 3x40 l/s. With the assistance of ATASSplus software, the pumping plant will be run easily and efficiently. The pumping plants in the complex currently have a yield of 580 l/s, which is necessary to be able to give the new generators a sufficient quantity of snow. There are 20 TF10 snow guns and starting next season they will replace the oldest part of the Gerlos ski resort, which are the lances that date back to the 90s.
With the changes mentioned above, starting with the 2013/2014 season, snowmaking time at Gerlos Zillertal can be reduced to about 72 hours at a wet-bulb temperature of -5°C. This way, the snowmaking windows can be used in an ideal manner, which will have a positive effect on energy consumption. For every snowmaking project, TechnoAlpin aims to build the most efficient equipment possible from the energy point of view and the Gerlos expansion project is even further proof of this.
