Saint Sorlin d'Arves - Sybelles: Major Retrofit and Expansion
The operator of French resort St Sorlin d'Arves - Sybelles (France), the SAMSO, a Maulin Mountain Participation company, entrusted TechnoAlpin France a major project on its ski area. Indeed, TechnoAlpin France completed the retrofit of the existing snowmaking system of the ski resort, a competing technology, along with a significant extension of the snowmaking system on the Massif Perrons sector and the liaison with La Balme sector. The goal for the operator is to strengthen the system performance significantly with the TechnoAlpin technology and allow making snow on the main slopes to ensure minimum skiability in case of lack of natural snow.
The expansion of the system focused on the installation of almost 6000 meters of additional snowmaking network, on the slopes of Col Lakes Rouet, and on top of Blanchard, and liaison with Lauze and Combe de Balme. 55 automatic shelters have been set up on this expansion this summer, equipped mainly Rubis Evolution and some V3, two low air consumption snow guns. Twenty other Rubis Evo will be installed in 2016
To ensure the water supply for snowmaking of the new slopes, the operator also launched the construction of a 160.000m3 snowmaking lake. In addition, a machine room has been installed near the reservoir. It houses à 500m3/h gravity feed water line and one additional 750m3/h of water line mixing high and medium pressure. In addition, one air compressor of 250kW will be sufficient to provide the necessary air to the new snow guns, given the low air consumption of Rubis Evo and V3.
For the retrofit of the existing Snowstar/Sufag equipment, the trail equipment and machinery rooms are concerned. The 138 Hydromat shelter valves in place will be withdrawn and replaced by YB valves. The latter can drive the current snow guns that will remain in place for now. As for the machine rooms, they will be equipped with TechnoAlpin’s YPLC controllers. The YB and YPLC also help to integrate and manage all components in the Liberty software that will control the installation. With the Liberty software, the operator will have a powerful tool to manage its snow production and control tightly the use of its resources.
Following this project, the total pumping capacity will be increased to 1600m3/h of water! With this major development, the operator of St Sorlin will be able to strengthen its production capacity. The ski resort will thus provide greater snow guarantee to its customers, while improving the overall performance of its snowmaking system.
