TechnoAlpin completes snowmaking system upgrade for Gstaad Rinderberg-Hornberg in record time
Work on the upgrade for the Hornberg and Rinderberg snowmaking systems at Gstaad Mountain Rides in Switzerland began on 14 August and, after a construction period of just three months (!), the all-stick installation was commissioned on 17 November. The new system is designed to put a 35 cm layer of snow on the ground in 60 hours of operation.
The new system includes three pump stations and one compressor station (315 kW), which is accommodated in a new building at Büelti base terminal. A total of 11 km of lines were laid on the mountain in the form of cast-iron and PE pipe, power cables, data lines and FO lines. The main water pipes vary in diameter from DN200 to DN400. A total of 128 stick guns, namely 16 A30s and 112 A9Vs, ensure snow cover on all the trails.
A strong focus was placed on the efficiency of the system, with automatic control provided with the help of the ATASSplus software. This TCP/IP-based technology offers monitoring and control of the complete installation. The advantages include the ability to make optimum use of snowmaking windows and maximum efficiency in terms of power consumption. The new control system has been designed to integrate the existing pump stations for the water supply from the River Saane.
