The most awaited event of the season is ready
In Schladming (AUT) everything is ready for a world championship which is already promising to be unforgettable. For the forty-second alpine skiing championship, scheduled from 4 to 17 February on the Planai slopes, 650 athletes are expected from 70 countries. The skiers will battle down to the last gate to earn one of the 33 medals up for grabs in front of 350,000 spectators. Schladming has already hosted a past edition of the World Championships in 1982. The Austrian ski resort has also hosted one of the most followed events by winter sport lovers in recent years since 1997: the night slalom. During the years, the organizing team has gained quite a bit of experience which has prepared them perfectly for this world championship event.
In previous years improvements have been made to the structures and systems at the Planai Hochwurzen ski resort: in 2010 Schladming had already built an 8-seater chair lift capable of transporting 3,200 people an hour in "8 seat cars". The old valley station in Planai, in the center of Schladming, was replaced by the impressive "Planet Planai" building which is destined to become the emblem of the Alpine World Ski Championships.
TechnoAlpin is making sure there's plenty of snow by once again providing the ski resort with new fan guns this year, including 2 mobile T40 units, 2 TF10 units on 4.5m lifts, 2 T60 units on 4.5m lifts and 4 T60 units on 4.5m lifts, reaching an impressive 147 fan guns and 22 A9V type lances with centralized air on the Austrian ski resort slopes.
The arrival stadium has stands for 33,000 spectators and a spectacular steel "winners' tower". Here, ski lovers and enthusiasts will be able to cheer their favorite competitors as they prepare to take on the Planai downhill which is as demanding as it is spectacular.
Even the side events scheduled during the World Championships will not disappoint the spectators' expectations.
