Juniors on TechnoAlpin snow

What do the great names of Nordic sports such as Janne Ahonen, Todd Lodwick and Thomas Morgenstern all have in common? Simple, they have all won gold medals at the FIS Nordic Skiing Junior World Championship. This great sporting event devoted to junior professional ran from 24th to 31st January 2010 in Hinterzarten/Notschrei in the Black Forest (GER). 

"Die Welt zu Gast in Hinterzarten" (Hinterzarten hosts the world): with this slogan, around 1,000 participants from 35 countries competed for the longest jumps in the skiing stadium at Adler, making for a fun-packed full week of excitement. And the young international professionals gave it their all on the new cross-country trails in Notschrei. 

To get ready for the great event, the existing biathlon track at Nordic Center Notschrei was expanded. A key element of the project was the installation of a powerful TechnoAlpin snow-making system.
With the new plant, artificial snow cover is now possible on a circuit 2.5 km long. Almost 1,500 m of pipes and cables have been laid in the ground and 14 concrete shelters installed with underground connection points. The water for snow-making comes from a new reservoir with a capacity of about 2,000 m3. As the system is laid out along a crest, a water supply pumping system with a flow rate of 5 l/s transports the water through an existing conduit 1,100 m long to the reservoir. The new pump station has a capacity of 20 l/s. The first season used 2 TechnoAlpin M12 Automatic mobile fan machines and two M18 Automatics. The construction work started at the beginning of July 2009. Since the works were carried out in a bird reserve, a maximum timeframe of 4 months was granted for the construction work. 

The new Notschrei stadium was well up to the high expectations for the event. And on the last slope towards the finishing line particularly, excitement reigned supreme, with the athletes accompanied through to the last by the enthusiastic shouts of the many spectators present. Local media quite rightly baptized this slope the ‘Alpes d’Huez’ (the Huez Alps). The FIS Nordic Skiing World Championship in Hinterzarten/Notschrei provided the perfect taster of the imminent winter Olympics in Vancouver.
