Winter sports in the town center

Winter sports in the town centerThe city of Munich has presented its bid to the International Olympics Committee (IOC) along with Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berchtesgadener Land, looking to organize the 23rd edition of the Winter Olympic Games and the 12th edition of the Paralympic Games for 2018. To stir up the population's enthusiasm immediately, a 3-day winter sports event was organized at the Olympic district. From 26th to 28th February, the Munich residents were able to test the entire range of winter Olympic sports. There were cross-country and biathlon trails, a ski slope, a fun park and a hill for freestyle and snowboarding – all created with real snow generated by two TechnoAlpin M18 generators.
In collaboration with the Bavarian capital’s skiing federation, the Bavarian federation and the Olympiapark München GmbH, TechnoAlpin installed the snow generators and a high pressure refrigerator ready for use in the ex-south curve of Bayern FC. Overall, this allowed for the production of 1,500 tons of snow. It took 240 truck journeys to transport this immense quantity of snow to the Olympic district. This festival will take place in the coming years too, to further stimulate enthusiasm for winter sports throughout the population.

TechnoAlpin regularly supports winter sports events. Market leaders in the technical snow sector, they are also proud to be the official technology partner of the German skiing federation DSV
