The wait is over – the Biathlon World Championships in Antholz are under way!

Today was the official opening of the 51st Biathlon World Championships in Antholz in South Tyrol! There is still time to watch the athletes until February 23 in the exciting races as they fight for the coveted world titles.

The biathlon has a long tradition in Antholz. The winter sport found a home in the Antholz valley over 50 years ago, and the idyllic mountain village has been a stop on the Biathlon World Cup tour for more than 30 years. The Arena is also an interesting venue for the World Championships and it will be hosting the event for the sixth time in 2020. The best biathletes of the world are currently competing for gold, silver and bronze in a total of 12 races over nine days. The South Tyrol Arena holds 15,000 fans in the stadium, and there is space for another 6,000 in the track area, all cheering enthusiastically during the races and spurring on the biathlon stars.

When it comes to guaranteeing the best quality snow and providing optimum surface coverage, the Biathlon World Cup Committee relies on the expertise of TechnoAlpin to be able to hold an event of this scale. As official Gold Partner to the 2020 Biathlon World Championships, the world market leader in snowmaking systems can guarantee the ideal solution for every location with its extensive range of products. Biathlon and Nordic competitions often pose special challenges for the organizers when it comes to guaranteeing snow because the sea level is usually closer than in Alpine ski areas, and therefore the windows of opportunity for snow production are even shorter. What is more, the snow often has to be distributed over many miles. With so many different snow guns in the product range TechnoAlpin can offer an efficient solution for each individual case.

International association also relies on TechnoAlpin

In addition to working with Antholz, TechnoAlpin has also been “Supplying Gold Partner” to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) since 2019. This means that organizers of biathlon competitions all over the world can benefit from this leader in snowmaking technology's many years of international experience when it comes to guaranteeing snow quantity and quality. One advantage is the machine-assisted and technology-based support in the preparation of the cross-country ski trails, and another is the regular communication with TechnoAlpin, including training sessions for the organizers.
