Jahorina Olympic Center: An expansion project with added power and performance

The Jahorina Olympic Center is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Dinaric mountain range south of Sarajevo. In 1984 it hosted the women’s downhill events at the Winter Olympics and today has 45 kilometers of slopes and 11 ski lifts. TechnoAlpin has been covering the slopes with modern snow guns since the 2018/2019 winter season.

As part of the project, the ski resort developed its snowmaking system extensively, including a reservoir with an aeration system and capacity to hold 75,000 m³ of water. In the course of the expansion, 37 new fan guns and 52 snow lances of various types were installed: The ultra-modern TR10 model sits alongside TR8 and T40 fan guns and powerful TF10 machines. These snowmaking systems ensure snow coverage on the 12 km ski slopes in the region of the six-seater chair lifts Ogorjelica I and Poljice as well as in the newly constructed Gondel Emir Kusturica including the "Novak Djokovic" slope. Two powerful compressors and two high-pressure pumps with a total output of 100 l/s were used in the new machine room. Two mobile pumping stations provide additional support for the water supply system. The ATASSplus software will be installed to control the snowmaking systems. TechnoAlpin was also responsible for the slope preparation and signaling as part of the project.
