TechnoAlpin honored to receive Premio Venezia award from the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada holds an annual ceremony at which its Premio Venezia award is presented to companies that have made a significant contribution to business cooperation between Italy and Canada. The prize in the Industry category in 2019 was awarded to the Bolzano-based company TechnoAlpin for the renovation of the snowmaking system in the Canadian ski resort of Owl’s Head.

Owl’s Head is located at the heart of the province of Québec in eastern Canada. An outdated and inefficient snowmaking system was causing increasing difficulties in terms of guaranteed snow coverage and snow quality. In 2018, the managers decided to go for a full renovation and expansion of the snowmaking system. The result is one of the largest snowmaking systems ever installed on the North American continent.

The contract for the project was awarded to TechnoAlpin, and the team was tasked with designing and delivering a turnkey system. The company from Bolzano drew up the project plans and also took care of the execution phase, coordinating the work with local subcontractors. Karlheinz Terrabona, the project manager in Bolzano worked closely on the project with the TechnoAlpin staff in Canada.

The project involved installing a total of 440 new snow guns, which are now all controlled by the ATASSplus software system. The software is designed by TechnoAlpin to ensure that snowmaking is automatically adapted to the prevailing conditions. The system is therefore always operating at the highest level of efficiency and maintaining consistent snow quality. Now that the work has been completed, 80% of the slopes can be covered with snow.

The judging panel singled out the project for the Premio Venezia award, commending it as a prime example of Italian know-how, which will bring added value to ski areas in Canada.
