TechnoAlpin - 2021 Swiss Mountain Award Finalist

The 9th Swiss Mountain Award was recently presented at the Seilbahnen Schweiz (Swiss Cableway) Forum industry conference held in Le Châble. The award recognizes particularly innovative developments in the Swiss cableway industry. TechnoAlpin is proud to have been nominated as one of the top three finalists with its electricity generator project based on its Davos snowmaking system.

So what is the project all about? Davos Klosters Bergbahnen have invested heavily in mountain snowmaking infrastructure over the last two decades. By making manageable adjustments to the available infrastructure, the system can be used for technical snowmaking in winter and as a small hydroelectric power plant producing eco-electricity for the rest of the year. The existing infrastructures are therefore used for a good ten months of the year as opposed to just two months. The plant per se produces over 60% of the electricity needed for snowmaking purposes. The cost of the adjustments has paid off in just four years. The project proves that sustainability does not always require large investments. Infrastructures can be entirely revamped and reused with considerable ecological and financial added value. Watch the following video to find out more about the project.
