TechnoAlpin to supply snow for Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina

This Sunday will see the official opening of the Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The ideal snow surface is crucial, especially at such major events, in order to ensure fair conditions for all the competing athletes. TechnoAlpin will therefore be at the center of the action once again during the two weeks of the World Championships, with 11 of the 13 races in Cortina due to be held on slopes covered with snow by the world market leader from Bolzano.

Having hosted the 1956 Olympic Games and the World Championships in 1932 and 1941, the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Dolomites will be the venue for a major skiing event for the fourth time. No spectators will be allowed at the races this time because of the coronavirus pandemic but millions of fans will be watching the events on TV screens all around the world. So when it comes to slope quality, the organizers do not want to leave anything to chance.

“We have found the ideal partner for these World Championships in TechnoAlpin,” said Alberto Dimai from ISTA Cortina. “When organizing such major events, everything has to work perfectly. This year many things were uncertain, but we can rely on TechnoAlpin to guarantee excellent snow on the slopes.”

TechnoAlpin can draw on many years of experience in producing snow for ski slopes used for races. The innovation leader has been official product supplier to the International Ski Federation (FIS) for five years now and, as such, is also the first point of contact for all questions about snowmaking technology at World Cup races and major events.

Guaranteed World Cup quality slopes

The snowmaking system in Cortina has been modernized over the past two years in order to be well prepared for the event. A total of 32 new fan guns will ensure optimum snow conditions on the slopes for the downhill races, the Super G, the giant slalom, the parallel slalom and the team event. The capacity of the pumping stations has also been significantly increased in order to guarantee the best possible water supply to the system. The snow guns and pumping stations have also been modernized with TechnoAlpin technology in the Cinque Torri area where the qualifiers are held and the slopes are used for training purposes.
