South American season snowmaking start-up!
Over the last few weeks, the snowmaking season has successfully started in South America, where the team of TechnoAlpin and its local partners have been very active, handling several new snowmaking projects, including a major system expansion at Catedral (AR), as well as assisting ski resorts’ snowmaking crews in firing-up their systems.
To smooth the start-up process of existing equipment as well as firing-up all the new snow guns and pumping stations in a timely fashion, our team had carried out a massive preventive maintenance program at several ski resorts in Argentina and Chile, based on the new Service B.E.A.T. concept. Despite sometime adverse weather conditions in the region, with early and quite heavy natural snow falls, the ski resorts’ snowmaking crews and TechnoAlpin technicians have been able to pull out all the commissioning operations.
At Catedral (AR), under the impulsion of the ski resort’s owner and operator, the Trappa family, as well as Patrick Peintner, the snowmaking manager, this year TechnoAlpin completed and commissioned a significant snowmaking project, part of comprehensive masterplan initiated in 2020, including new lifts and snow production facilities. The goal was to further secure the snow guarantee particularly on the lower part of the ski resort’s slopes, where the temperature conditions can be marginal.
To achieve this ambitious objective, Catedral opted for the best fan gun technology available today, the tower mount TT10. Indeed, the TT10 is a masterpiece particularly when it comes to making snow at marginal temperatures, outperforming any snow producers on the market. A total of 40 TT10 fan guns have been installed on the Catedral’s slopes, on 4 km of water pipes. The project also encompassed a new water reservoir of 110 000m3, as well as a new pumping station to increase the fire power.
Beyond this project in Catedral, other ski resorts have started up new equipment also for the South American winter season. This is the case at Cerro Castor, where 12 new TT10 are now ensuring the perfect snow cover on the new Gran Castor downhill slope or at ski center Pedras Blancas, with 3 new TR9 installed on a 1800 m snowmaking system expansion.
