Four in one: San Pellegrino simplifies the future

Ski Area San Pellegrino in the Dolomites, which covers over 60 km of slopes, is a member of the world’s largest skiing association, Dolomiti SuperSki. The ski resort is the result of a collaboration between four companies, bridging the two Italian provinces of Belluno and Trento.

The four companies, Impianti Falcade Col Margherita, Funivie Col Margherita, Impianti Cima Uomo and Societá Catinaccio, were already established clients of TechnoAlpin and all had their own ATASS control software. The four old ATASS systems were combined in 2019, and are now united in a single, latest-generation ATASSplus.

The main reason for unifying them in a single control software was the shared water management. The ski resort’s main water supply comes from Lake Cavia, which feeds the entire ski area and is also used for the generation of hydro-electricity. The union allowed the overall water balance to be controlled through a single program, while at the same time enabling all four companies to maintain their individual characteristics.

ATASSplus guarantees that all snowmaking windows can be exploited to the full. The software also offers numerous advantages in terms of managing and optimizing resources. This includes the supply of both water and air. San Pellegrino installed the software based on an update contract, meaning that the ski resort already has the latest version of the software. Moreover, all four companies can access the ATASSplus mobile app. Using this, it is possible to control the entire ski area, as well as meaning that the individual slopes and snowmaking lines, with their total of 600 pits, can be controlled separately.

In addition to this unification, the ski area also added to its range of snow guns: during the last winter season, twelve new fan guns — including ten latest-generation TR10s — guaranteed top-quality snow while at the same time making the best use of resources. All of this means that the ski resort is already very well equipped for the next winter season.
