Fully automatic snowmaking in miniature

Two TR8 fan guns and an automatic pumping station controlled by a Smartphone app: In the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena in Ehrwald, TechnoAlpin has installed one of the smallest fully automatic snowmaking systems in the company's history to cover the 4.3 kilometer cross-country ski trail. But what makes this so special is the fact that it works like a large-scale system! "We used large, modern systems that we have already installed in various ski areas as the model for this project," explains Matthias Illmer, Managing Director of TechnoAlpin, Austria. "These tried and tested systems were also used to develop customized, state-of-the-art solutions for smaller facilities such as Ehrwald where only two fan guns are used, for instance."

A fully automatic, highly efficient snowmaking system was thus installed in the cross-country center at the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, with ideal operating conditions for staff. "We had already been producing snow on some of the center's cross-country trails. But this new project took a great deal of time and considerable staff commitment," explains Thomas Koch, Technical Manager at the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. "With the brand new fully automatic system, we are now more efficient in every respect and have everything well and truly under control with no stress or worries, thanks to the mobile APP." Many tasks such as checking current weather conditions or starting and stopping the system can be carried out remotely. Thomas Koch was also pleased to report that, "in the meantime, we have installed a camera which allows us to monitor on-site situations as they develop, via the Smartphone." This means we can be 100 percent flexible without having to be on site."
