The company that operates the ski resort of l’Alpe d'Huez has entrusted a large-scale snowmaking project to TechnoAlpin. It includes the installation of more than 60 fan guns and will be the most important project with fan technology on the French market. The 2017 Alpe d'Huez works include other aspects such as a major optimization operation of existing equipment as well as an increase of the pumping capacity of the main pump station.
In 2015, for the snowmaking project of the mythical Sarenne ski slope, the operator of l’Alpe d’Huez tried very successfully 4 TF10. Logically, the ski resort renewed its confidence in the fan technology offered by TechnoAlpin. For this year’s project, 63 fan guns, including 37 TF10 on 3.5m lift, 2 TF10 on 1.6m tower, 6 TF10 on 6m arm, 8 TF10 on 12m arm and finally 8 T40 on 1.6m tower, will be installed on the slopes of the ski resort. Most of these machines will replace existing high pressure snow guns and they will be positioned on key areas of the skiing terrain: slopes returning to the base area, as well as on the slalom race track.
In order to ensure the highest safety standards for the snowmaking crew, the 37 machines on the 3.5m lift will be supplied with a top safety platform. This protective equipment will allow the operators and service technicians to work at height in safety, in particular during the maintenance operations of the snow guns.
The choice of fan technology has been made to boost production capacities, particularly at the beginning of the season and when weather conditions are difficult with marginal temperatures on these locations considered very important for the operation of the ski area. The TF10, the most powerful and efficient fan gun on the market will therefore fulfill its role perfectly and meet the needs of the operator. The throw range, particularly with the version mounted on arms, will be a plus for production on the very wide tracks of l’Alpe d'Huez. In addition, the high quality of the snow, as well as the high quantity produced by the TF10, over all the temperature ranges will also be decisive for optimal preparation of the slopes.
With these new machines, the ski resort will have on of the largest fleet of fan gun in France. All the machines will be integrated and controlled by the Liberty software already in place for the control of existing equipment on the snowmaking installation of l’Alpe d'Huez.
In order to make control operations easier for the snowmaking crews on the field when required, all the machines will be equipped with a Bluetooth connection module. This allows controlling or checking the machines locally using a remote control.
In addition, the operator of the ski resort has also decided to optimize existing equipment: 50 heads of Rubis Classic will be replaced by Rubis Evolution heads. This operation will reduce the overall air consumption for snow production, and thus to control better the energy consumption. Finally, to increase the overall production capacity, a new snow pump of 130m3/h and 355kW will be installed in the main machine room of the snowmaking system.
With this 2017 project, the operator of l’Alpe d'Huez continues to reinforce its installation with the most advanced technology from TechnoAlpin in order to be able to prepare the slopes as best as possible and to offer the best conditions to the guests of the ski resort.
