When little expenses yield big profit!

Snowmaking technologies are constantly evolving and improving, in terms of snow volume and quality, as well as energy efficiency. Given the evolution of weather patterns, today’s snowmaking calls for snow producers capable of making large quantities of snow in a short time, starting at marginal temperatures.

This is particularly true when you look at the numbers and at snowmaking operating data. The analysis of 30’000 snow producers worldwide, over the 2019/2020 season, gives very interesting insights into what is really important. The analysis shows that 71.5% of the snowmaking hours range from -2.5 to -6.4°C WB (wet bulb temperature). And within this temperature range, 63.2% of the annual snow volume is produced.

This means that it is very important to have snow producers with the highest efficiency possible at marginal temperatures. If not, the risk if very high to lose a great amount of production potential when it’s the most important: before the opening of ski resorts, when the ski slopes are being prepared. With older snowmaking technologies, one will not be able to exploit the full potential of the hours of cold and the available resources.

Cost-effective solution

If new snowmaking systems or system expansion are built using the newest snow producers, the situation is different for existing snowmaking systems, particularly with large fleets of lance snow producers, sometimes equipped with ageing or older technologies. Fortunately, there’s an easy and cost-effective way to upgrade this type of systems to the next level and bring the benefit of using the latest technological features.

Backed by years of extensive research and development and strong engineering skills, TechnoAlpin is able to bring a technical solution to ski resort operators facing this situation, that will require minor investment: the lance head replacement.

Keeping the same lance pipe and snow pit valve, it is only necessary to replace the head of the lance, by a new head. For instance, Rubis Classic, A30 and A9 lance heads can be replaced by Rubis Evo, TL4 (standard version) or V3 heads. Therefore, with a limited investment, this will offer a significant increase in terms of production and resource efficiency.

This operation allows ski resort operator to benefit from today’s modern snowmaking technologies by TechnoAlpin, while keeping investment costs in line.
