2023 World Ski Championships kick-off in Courchevel and Méribel
The elite of the world of alpine skiing has flocked to Courchevel and Méribel for the 2023 FIS World Ski Championships, one of the major and most prestigious winter sport events, along with the Olympics. For the next 2 weeks the best athletes will compete in Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom on the slopes of France well-known Courchevel and Méribel ski resorts.
As the world leading supplier of snowmaking technologies, TechnoAlpin is very proud to be the official technical partner of this event. Indeed, in order to guarantee the best snow conditions on the slopes hosting the races, the operators of the two ski resorts worked well ahead of this major event with TechnoAlpin: Analysis of the specificities of each site, assessment of production needs, calculation and system sizing. TechnoAlpin has deployed its know-how and expertise to provide optimized solutions.
In Courchevel, where the men's events take place, the snowmaking project mainly focused on the “Eclipse” slope, specially laid out and designed for the occasion. With a little less than 1000m of vertical drop and 3200m of length, the “Eclipse” slope offers ski racers a challenging and demanding experience, in the prestigious setting of Courchevel and its grandiose landscapes.
On this already legendary slope, 76 snow pits have been installed, including 42 equipped with double snow guns, with 2 lances, to maximize the snow production. At the bottom of the slope, in the finish area, in order to further increase the production capacity, additional snow pits have been set up and specially equipped to receive TechnoAlpin fan guns.
On the slopes of Méribel, where the women's events take place, it is at the “Corbey” ski stadium that snow production equipment has been added to offer the best conditions to the competitors. In total, 16 snow pits equipped with lance type snow guns have been set up. This is an extension of the existing snowmaking installation of Méribel. To complete and further secure the snow production, TechnoAlpin has provided additional mobile fan guns.
TechnoAlpin and all its teams are very proud to have contributed to the preparation of this major international winter sports event. These projects in Courchevel and Méribel for the 2023 World Championships add to an already long list, TechnoAlpin having already supplied snow production equipment at multiple sites and mountain resorts that have hosted races and event on the occasion of Winter Olympics and world ski championships.
