Ready for Winter in the Southern Hemisphere

As summer begins in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere sees winter get underway. For ski areas, every favorable temperature window is crucial to delivering good slope conditions for patrons right from the outset.

One example is the Selwyn snow resort in Australia. In collaboration with TechnoAlpin, a modern snowmaking solution was installed as part of the reconstruction work at the resort. Moving on from its previous system, Selwyn can now produce snow at temperatures up to two degrees higher, ensuring a more reliable start to the season.

Nic Wilke, Mountain Operations Manager in Selwyn, sums up the advantage in a nutshell:

"If we can start within minutes instead of hours, we make use of cold air that would otherwise be lost."

Preparations for winter are also underway in New Zealand: at Coronet Peak, the Snow Factory is back in action for the start of the season. This new project also highlights the importance of reliable snow production in creating good conditions for early winter operations.
