TechnoAlpin snow made by Salou Amidou from Niger

The young man works in a field that is pretty unusual for someone who comes from Africa: he is a snowmaker. By night he patrols the Altastenberg ski area on his ski-doo and checks the performance of the TechnoAlpin snow guns.
For the last four winters, Salou Amidou has been the man who ensures optimum snow conditions on the mountain together with the Altastenberg snowmaking team. "It always makes me feel good to see the skiers having a good time on our trails!" Amidou says. For the 28-year-old, the sub-zero temperatures are no longer a problem; "I'm used to the cold now, and I feel very much at home here in Germany."
Altastenberg (www.ski-altastenberg.de) is a combined ski area with seven surface lifts at an altitude of between 600 and 800 meters. As the highest ski area in Germany's Hochsauerland region, it gets plenty of days of frost – ideal conditions for snowmaking.
The Altastenberg snowmaking installation at a glance:
- 1 pump station with a capacity of 45 l/sec
- 20 tapping points
- approx. 2000 m of cast iron pipe and cabling on the mountain
- 3 x M18 mobile
- 1 x M18 quiet mobile
- 2 x M20 mobile
- 2 x A9V
At present about 80% of the skiable terrain is covered by the snowmaking installation.
