Val di Fiemme is ready.
Northern Italy's Val die Fiemme (ITA) will host the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013. Not content to wait until next year, the modernized venue has already had plenty of opportunity to sparkle this year. At the beginning of the year the event organizers demonstrated their world championship credentials at the Tour de Ski races. The ski jump heats have also been held in the new stadium in Predazzo. The modernization program included both the infrastructure of the stadium and the snow-making system.
The M12 installation operation attracted a great deal of attention, with both arm-mounted units requiring installation on the take-off ramp. The individual parts were taken from inside the stadium by helicopter to the place of installation on the steep ramp where the TechnoAlpin installation engineers were awaiting their arrival. The film shows the spectacular scenes. Last weekend the athletes had their first opportunity to test the new additions. They did not conceal their excitement about the new system. Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer and Kamil Stoch of Poland were best when it came to navigating the ski jump, claiming the victory on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The spectators were wowed by the achievements of the athletes but also by those of the event organizers. Indeed, the aim of the organizers had been to put on a varied and stimulating supporting program of events. The same strategy will be adopted during the 2013 world championships in a bid to impress the spectators. With things having gone so well this year, there is no reason why the world championships should not be successful.
