TechnoAlpin for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games

The venues for the XXIV Olympic and XIII Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022 were entirely covered with snow produced by TechnoAlpin. Thanks to the close collaboration between the head office in Bolzano and the subsidiary in China, TechnoAlpin tendered successful bids for all of the 2022 Olympic snow sports competitions.
 

“After Sochi in 2014 and Pyeongchang in 2018, this is the third consecutive time that TechnoAlpin has been involved in the Olympic Games. We are, of course, particularly proud to receive a larger share of the orders each time - even 100% on this occasion! That underlines our technological leadership and testifies to our reliability and high level of expertise at major events,” said TechnoAlpin CEO Erich Gummerer with justified confidence.

Excellent snow conditions

Overall, the snow sports competitions were held in 4 venues. The Xiaohaituo Ski Center hosted all of the alpine competitions. The ski area was newly built especially for the Olympic Games. The slopes for the snowboarding and freestyle events as well as the Olympic halfpipe were constructed slightly further to the north, in the Genting Secret Garden Resort. The Guyangshu Nordic Center is another brand new construction, where all the cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski-jumping and combined events were held. The supposedly smallest, but no less spectacular project was created for the Big Air competitions, which were held in a disused industrial park in the center of Beijing. The athletes were enthusiastic about the on-site conditions and praised the snow conditions as excellent and high-end.
 

The extensive construction work was carried out over a 3-year period, in the midst of the pandemic. Despite the restrictions, the projects were completed on time. Overall, more than 350 snow guns as well as 7 machine rooms and pumping stations were installed. The contract was worth around 20 million Euros in total.
