Smart snowmaking control: ATASSpro at Madonna di Campiglio
The famous ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio, located in the Dolomites of Brenda, is a longtime customer of TechnoAlpin and longtime user of the Liberty technology… well until last season. In a strategic move, built together with TechnoAlpin, to further improve the efficiency of the snow production, the operator of the ski resort has transitioned, for the season 2024/25, from the Liberty snowmaking control software to the latest, state-of-the-art, ATASSpro control software.
This project involved a significant number of sensitive modifications of existing equipment, particularly regarding resource management, machine rooms and machine room components. Indeed, the size of the snowmaking system of Madonna di Campiglio, which count no less than 10 machine rooms and pumps stations, called for a very precise and detailed planning of the various steps and upgrade operations to achieve the transition to ATASSpro.
All the PLCs of the machine rooms, which controls the individual components, had to be replaced and programed accordingly. Of course, moving to ATASSpro has allowed to simplify the handling of the system settings. Another advantage, it has improved as well the ability to support remotely both the computer and PLCs from the Service center in Bolzano.
Some modifications have been required too for the equipment on the slopes. Indeed, Madonna di Campiglio has a very vast fleet of snow producers, fan guns and lances! However, the operational benefits of deploying ATASSpro have been huge on the capacity to manage and monitor the snow production. In addition, with this move, the snowmaking crew has been able to access the ATASSpro MobileApp, and the management team, the SNOWMASTER application.
Even if it involved switching to a completely new software and changing past habits, the snowmaking crew of Madonna di Campiglio expresses positive feedback. Indeed, after some initial questions, the team decided to embrace the project and the challenges associated, with a great satisfaction regarding the outcome… as stated by the head of snowmaking, Germano Alberti: “ATASSpro brought greater ease of use by staff, a simplification in the snow production processes, less sensitivity to blocking failures and increased production due to optimized utilization as well as improved remote control due to new logic and connected applications.”
With ATASSpro, Madonna di Campiglio has taken snow production to the next level, has gained in efficiency, and is even readier to face the future challenges of snowmaking, in terms of resource management and sustainability!
