TechnoAlpin snow for the 2023 World Championships
The 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships get off to a flying start in Georgia on 19 February. A brand new, high-performance snowmaking system was installed by TechnoAlpin in 2021 and 2022 in readiness for this major event. TechnoAlpin acted as the general contractor, delivering approximately 250 snow guns as well as machine rooms and field equipment. The 2022 contract is one of the biggest individual contracts in TechnoAlpin’s history and was completed in less than 6 months.
The first construction lot was completed in the run-up to the test events conducted successfully in early 2022. Twenty-six fan-based snow guns and 2.6 km of cast-iron pipelines fit for purpose had already been installed in the summer of 2021.
And in the summer of 2022, TechnoAlpin won the contract for the second, more extensive construction lot. This comprises around 230 snow guns (TR10, TT10 and TL4), 4 machine rooms with 16 pumps, 29 km of cast-iron pipes, 60 km of aluminum cables and 26 km of data cables. TechnoAlpin secured the contract for one of the biggest projects in the company’s history in mid-July and delivered all of the equipment in less than 6 months. All of the runs and pipes were prepared well in advance in recent weeks.
“The disciplines of the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships often pose different snowmaking challenges than the alpine disciplines, with much higher quantities of snow often being required,” reports Nemanja Dogo, a Sales Manager with TechnoAlpin. “When the contract for the World Championships was first awarded, the Georgian management team promised to do everything in their power to organize the event according to state-of-the-art international standards. We are so proud that we were able to turn this challenging project around in record time, thereby showcasing our reliability and technological leadership.”
The World Championships goal is to promote the future of winter sports in Georgia and consolidate the country's position in this respect. Mountains make up 70% of the Georgian landscape - hence the country is more or less predestined to become a successful winter sports venue.
