Mt. Buller (Australia)
Expansion of the current snowmaking system
Preparations for the start of winter on Queen's Birthday Weekend were successful and the Mt. Buller ski resort has commissioned two new TechnoAlpin SnowFactory machines.
The four machines in total are key pillars of Mt. Buller's overall snowmaking system, ensuring a guaranteed winter start regardless of temperatures and snowfall. When fully operational, the SnowFactories can now produce up to 550 m3 of snow in 24 hours. The ability to reliably make snow is a game-changer giving certainty for guests and operators, especially at the beginning and end of the snow season when natural snowfalls can be less predictable.
Mr. Paul Richmond, snowmaking manager of the Mt. Buller lift company, welcomed the investment in the ski area: "With the new SnowFactory, we are strengthening our existing snowmaking system. Instead of wondering when the snow will come, we can guarantee winter operations for our guests right from the start. I am very happy with the performance of the new machine and the snow quality increased compared to the former model – especially we can see this in the preparation phase with the snow groomer.”
The two SnowFactories were purchased as part of the Alpine Business Support grant from Regional Development Victoria to help the resort recover from the impacts of bushfires and COVID-19. The grant also funded the development of five “docking stations” where the mobile SnowFactory can be located to make snow where it’s needed. The two SnowFactories, trailers and five docking stations are an important part of the resort’s climate change adaptation strategy. Mt. Buller has been working on improving water and energy efficiency when making snow as well as techniques to preserve snow to guarantee more skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing from June until October.
Chongli (China)
Indoor Halfpipe - stunts all year round
Top freestyle athletes now have the opportunity to train all year round under the best snow conditions for their stunts in Chongli. Completed in October 2021, the indoor halfpipe has been equipped with a TechnoAlpin SnowFactory that produces 1.000 m3 of snow per day, TF10 propeller machines and a mobile pump station.
Mr. Wu Xiangxi, hall manager about the Snowfactory:
"The SnowFactory met the specific snow quality requirements for the preparation of an indoor halfpipe to our complete satisfaction. The machine is very easy to operate and runs fully automatically. I was also impressed by the service and commissioning team, they were customer-oriented and always available for questions."
Zhejiang (China)
Snow production under difficult weather conditions
Skiing in Zhejiang is nothing new. The Chinese province currently has over 16 ski resorts located around the cities of Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Shaoxing, Lishui, Huzhou, Jinhua and Taizhou.
In April 2022, TechnoAlpin delivered a new Polar SnowFactory to the Zhejiang Wuyi Gianzhangyan Ski Resort. This means that snow can be guaranteed here even under difficult weather conditions in order to respond to the increasing demand from China's winter tourism industry. Thanks also to the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022, interest in skiing has continued to grow.
